This salon is a space with a characteristic ratio of deep depth to the width of the frontage, which is a typical layout of an old Japanese commercial store called “Unagino Nedoko = Elongated shape like an eel” in Kyoto and Osaka. At the beginning of this plan, we decided to disassemble carefully in order to find the old design hidden by every renovation. We investigated the original rustic material that appeared again, selected the parts to be left as it is, the parts to restore, and the members to be newly processed. And I thought about inserting the role of beauty salon in that space and rebuilding the function of space newly. In order to abstractly extract the characteristic of the characteristic space, the whole space was painted in white, and the shape of the three-dimensional space was expressed by the shadow. I tried to design to be a device that connects the past and the future situation while holding the image of the old special shape called “Unagino Nedoko”.
